Jim began his career at the retail level as sales manager (ten years), for a large high volume, full line music store in Southern California. Subsequently, Jim established his own independent sales agency (GSM) representing International Music Corporation (IMC) and their distributed product lines: AKAI Professional, Ross Systems, Studiomaster, Tokai Guitars, Hondo Guitars & Fane Speakers. GSM was also awarded numerous sales awards and accolades during his association with IMC.

After four years with International Music Corporation representing their product lines, Jim was retained as Vice President of Sales for Studiomaster (a British based company) in 1986 and played a major role in Studiomasters' successful U.S. operation start up and subsequent U.S. incorporation. In 1999 Jim was promoted to President - CEO of the U.S. corporation and held that position until he left the company in late 2001. Jim has maintained his long standing relationship with Studiomaster over the last few years and still consults with the management of Studiomaster U.K. on a regular basis.
